Viljoen is a high-volume ball carrier who consistently accumulates ground, averaging over 52 metres per game across his nine URC appearances — a figure that underlines his importance as an attacking outlet from the back. His carrying load of more than nine attempts per match suggests he is regularly involved in phase play rather than operating purely as a last line. Defensively he contributes steadily, with a standout individual performance of 11 tackles in a single game demonstrating that he can shoulder a much heavier defensive burden when required.
EW Viljoen is a professional rugby union fullback registered with the Lions, the Johannesburg-based franchise. He forms part of the matchday squad and is tasked with covering the back field and counter-attacking from deep.
As a fullback, EW features for the Lions across the United Rugby Championship, the Currie Cup and European club competition, with home fixtures played at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg.
