What is Grant Khomo Week?

The FNB U16 Grant Khomo Week is the under-16 leg of SA Rugby’s Youth Weeks — the same provincial format as the famous U18 Craven Week, two age groups down. Each provincial union sends its best under-16 side, and for most future professionals it is the first time they pull on a provincial jersey in a national tournament.

The week is named in honour of Grant Khomo, one of the great figures of Black South African rugby, who captained national sides in the era when the game was segregated. Like the other Youth Weeks it keeps no points log and stages no official final: fixtures are seeded as the week unfolds, with the strongest sides paired on the final day.

The pathway to Craven Week

Grant Khomo Week is where provincial and franchise scouts get their first proper look at a generation. The players who stand out here are the core of the U18 Craven Week squads two seasons later — and the names on this page are worth remembering when the 2028 Craven Week teams are announced.
