Across 48 matches Mbatha presents as a high-volume defensive performer, averaging close to four tackles per game and reaching double figures in his best outings — a rate that underlines his reliability at the breakdown and in the wider defensive structure. His carrying numbers are modest by design, reflecting the controlled, efficient role a modern hooker plays in the Sharks forward pack, though his six tries across the dataset show he remains a threat around the foul and at close range. The consistency of his output across four competitions signals a player who holds his level week to week rather than one who peaks in isolation.
