Arriving as a replacement, Smyth consistently makes his presence felt on defence, averaging three tackles per appearance across his five URC outings — with a single-game high of eight demonstrating the ceiling of his defensive output. His carrying numbers are modest, suggesting his primary value in these matches has been as a defensive enforcer rather than a ball-carrying threat. The pattern of contribution is reliable if measured, pointing to a player who fulfils a specific, disciplined role when introduced from the bench.
