Across 11 Super Rugby appearances, Mataele has shown he is a primary attacking weapon on the wing, averaging close to 48 metres per game from a fairly modest carry count — a ratio that points to consistent line-breaking ability rather than volume running. His seven tries across the sample underline a finisher's instinct, converting opportunity efficiently when the ball reaches him. Defensively he contributes without being heavily tested, though his single-game peak of seven tackles shows he can put in a shift when required.
