Els is a consistent presence at the heart of Griquas' forward effort, averaging over nine carries and more than eight tackles per match across 15 appearances in Challenge Cup and Currie Cup rugby. His workload rarely dips, and his peak outputs — 17 carries, 102 metres, and 16 tackles in a single game — show he can shoulder an even heavier burden when required. That combination of reliable ground gain and high tackle volume marks him as a Number 8 who contributes meaningfully on both sides of the ball.
