Van der Merwe's numbers across Challenge Cup and Currie Cup appearances paint a clear picture of a replacement who prioritises defensive work, averaging four tackles per game and reaching nine in a single outing. His carrying load is modest but purposeful, suggesting his primary value on the field is structural rather than ball-in-hand. The consistency of his defensive output across six appearances indicates he slots reliably into the defensive line whenever introduced.
Arno stands 197cm (6′6″) tall and weighs 110kg.
