The Springboks have unveiled a special-edition jersey for Rugby's Greatest Rivalry against the All Blacks — and it is genuinely striking. But fans wanting to wear it will need deep pockets.
Jersey Pricing and Availability Options
Nike and SA Rugby revealed the strip on Wednesday, offering two versions at vastly different price points. The stadium jersey is priced at R1,499 through the SA Rugby Shop. Those wanting the full Test replica slim-fit version will pay R2,699. That is not a small outlay, but what you are buying is not a standard match jersey either.
The Boks will debut the new strip at Ellis Park on 22 August, the first Test of the four-match series. Before that, the All Blacks face the Stormers at DHL Stadium on Friday evening and the Sharks at Hollywoodbets Kings Park on Tuesday, 11 August, in the provincial warm-up legs of the tour.
Design Features and National Significance
Nike and SA Rugby describe this as 'a jersey like no other', and the design backs that claim. At its heart is a subtle tone-on-tone graphic featuring the lyrics of Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika arranged in the shape of the South African flag. The words appear in all five official languages used in the national anthem — Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans and English — representing the coming together of South Africa's diverse cultures and communities. For a rivalry series with this much historical and emotional weight, the symbolism is fitting.
