Pieter-Steph Backs Bok Rookies for Wales Test 2026

Pieter-Steph du Toit says four Springbok debutants are ready to shine at Kings Park against Wales in the Nations Championship.

Four players are set to earn their first Springbok caps on Saturday and Pieter-Steph du Toit has no doubts they are ready for the occasion. Tighthead prop Carlü Sadie, lock Ruben van Heerden, flyhalf Vusi Moyo and right wing Jaco Williams will all make their Test bows when South Africa face Wales at Kings Park in the Nations Championship on Saturday, 18 July, kick-off 17:40 SAST.

The quartet join a broadening pool of new faces introduced by Rassie Erasmus this season as the world champions push to deepen their squad options beyond their established core. Du Toit, leading the side in what has become an increasingly competitive Test environment, says the senior group has been impressed not by the newcomers' raw talent alone, but by how swiftly they have absorbed the Springbok system.

'The young guys who've joined us so far this season have all been open-minded,' Du Toit said. 'They really adapt quite fast to the way we want to play and how things are done here, how the system works and what's expected of them. If you look at the intensity and excitement they bring, it's good for us to see how excited and hungry they are to put that jersey on.'

That hunger matters at Kings Park. The Durban fortress has long been one of South African rugby's most electric stages, and Du Toit expects the debutants to feed off the atmosphere rather than be consumed by it. 'For them to get to play at Kings Park will be a huge honour and privilege for them and I'm sure they'll go out and give everything they have,' he said.

The Boks arrive at this fixture on the back of a 42-28 victory over Scotland and a 45-21 demolition of England in previous Nations Championship rounds, maintaining their grip on top spot in the standings. Wales, who lost 35-21 to Argentina last time out, will provide a genuine examination of Sadie, Van Heerden, Moyo and Williams — but if Du Toit's read on the group is right, Saturday night under the Kings Park lights could be the making of all four.
