Kabamba Floors has resigned as head coach of Maties, departing Stellenbosch University a full month before his contract was due to run out at the end of July. The university confirmed the resignation to Rapport but offered no explanation, with a spokesperson stating only that the reasons are regarded as confidential.
Succession Plan Already Underway
It is an abrupt end to Floors' tenure at one of South African club rugby's most storied institutions. Resigning ahead of a contract's natural expiry rarely signals a clean break, and Stellenbosch's tight-lipped response will only fuel speculation about the circumstances behind the split.
The succession plan is already in motion, however. Paarl Boys High head coach Sean Erasmus emerged as the standout candidate through the interview process and has since been offered the position. An official announcement is expected in September, though Stellenbosch University maintains no appointment has yet been formally finalised.
Erasmus Steps Up to University Level
Erasmus has built a strong reputation in the schoolboy and club coaching ranks, and his elevation to a university powerhouse like Maties represents a significant step up. The timing of the appointment — with pre-season preparations on the horizon — will demand a quick turnaround from whoever takes the reins.
