Reneilwe Letsholonyane, one of the most decorated midfielders in PSL history, has touched down in Zvishavane to finalise his move to Zimbabwean side FC Platinum as assistant coach. The former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart travelled to complete his contract on Tuesday and will work under fellow South African Thabo Senong, who has been appointed as the club's new head coach.
Replacing Joel Luphahla at FC Platinum
The South African duo replaces Joel Luphahla, who departed after a poor run of results left FC Platinum sitting 10th in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after 25 matches. Nine games remain in the season and the club is banking on Senong and Letsholonyane to rescue what has been a difficult campaign. Neither man can take the dugout just yet — both are still awaiting work permits and final administrative clearance, with Alex Sigion and Moses Mwafulirwa continuing to run first-team training in the interim.
Letsholonyane arrives in Zimbabwe after his previous role at Botswana Premier League side Matebele FC, where in his first season as head coach he guided the club to a 10th-place finish and secured their top-flight status. Before that, he cut his teeth in the Kaizer Chiefs academy after retiring in 2021, then worked with the AmaZulu reserve team and served as assistant coach for South Africa's Under-20 and CHAN national teams.
Letsholonyane's Decorated Playing Career
As a player, Letsholonyane made more than 200 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs, won two league titles and a collection of domestic trophies, earned 54 Bafana Bafana caps, and represented South Africa at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He also turned out for Jomo Cosmos, SuperSport United, Highlands Park and TS Galaxy during a career that spanned the full breadth of South African football.
