Orlando Pirates have already moved in the transfer market this window, bringing in Norwegian forward Sebastian Pedersen, but the Bucs may not be done yet. With Relebohile Mofokeng gone and a CAF Champions League campaign on the horizon, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could still add serious Bafana Bafana quality before the window shuts.
Three Transfer Targets for Pirates
Three names stand out. The first is the 33-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder who recently departed AmaZulu. The 30-capped Bafana man is calm in possession, gets forward effectively and carries strong defensive instincts. He played at Sundowns during their back-to-back Betway Premiership title wins in 2022/23 and 2023/24, and his profile draws comparisons to Sipho Mbule, who has since moved to Zakho FC in Iraq. That experience of winning at the highest domestic level is exactly what a squad chasing a title defence needs.
Percy Tau is the biggest name available. The former Bafana Bafana captain is a free agent and brings European pedigree alongside CAF Champions League know-how. At 32, his movement, vision and football intelligence remain sharp. Slotting him in behind the likes of Oswin Appollis, Patrick Maswanganyi and Tshepang Moremi could unlock a different dimension in the Pirates attack entirely.
Percy Tau Emerges as Top Option
The third option is Sphephelo Sithole, the 27-year-old midfielder still under contract with Portuguese side Tondela, who has previously indicated openness to returning to South Africa. He offers physicality, composure and genuine two-way midfield work — the kind of profile that transforms a squad quietly rather than loudly.
