England captain Jamie George has drawn a line in the sand. If racist abuse targets any of his players during Saturday's Nations Championship clash against Argentina in Santiago del Estero, George says England are prepared to walk off the pitch.
The warning carries real weight. A year ago, replacements Asher Opoku-Fordjour and Chandler Cunningham-South were racially abused by a small group of spectators during England's Test win in San Juan. A World Rugby investigation confirmed racial discrimination had taken place. The Argentine Rugby Union called it an isolated incident. George is not taking any chances this time around.
"It's something being considered," the hooker said. "If anything like that happened then it deserves the strongest of reactions. There is no place for that in the world and I feel incredibly strongly about that."
George revealed England have war-gamed the scenario in detail. The first move would be to alert the referee, triggering World Rugby's formal anti-discrimination protocols. What comes after that remains under discussion — but a walkout is firmly on the table. "We've had discussions around 'what if?'. I really hope — and I'm optimistic — that the Argentinian Rugby Union has taken it very seriously. At the same time we've got a plan B if that doesn't happen," he said.
