DHL Stormers and Springbok star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has credited South Africa’s world champion rugby setup for facilitating his rapid rise in the national team.
The 22-year-old playmaker had a standout debut season in 2024, showcasing his attacking flair, defensive skill, and composure from the kicking tee before a knee injury cut his Test season short. Despite the setback, his impressive performances earned him a nomination for World Rugby’s Breakthrough Player of the Year award.
Reflecting on his growth while speaking as a guest during the New Year’s cricket Test between South Africa and Pakistan, Feinberg-Mngomezulu highlighted how the national setup has shaped his development:
It’s a really fortunate position I am in to come into a set-up where everything is run smoothly. Your team is winning and has excellent players around you. It makes a job like mine a lot easier, especially as a young 22-year-old flyhalf.
Despite recent injury frustrations, including a shoulder injury sustained against the Sharks and earlier exits in previous URC matches, the rising star remains positive. He aims to inspire future generations through his success:
My main goal is to show people that it’s possible. If you want something, you can get it. I want to make the country proud and bring as much silverware to South Africa as possible.
The Stormers, on the back of consecutive URC wins, face Sale Sharks in a must-win Champions Cup clash this Saturday at Cape Town Stadium. Feinberg-Mngomezulu emphasized the importance of the fixture:
The Champions Cup is all about the best players fighting for a win. It’s high stakes, and you can’t afford to lose.
