The Springboks have chosen the scenic island of Jersey as their base camp, preparing for their November clashes in the UK. Known for its mild yet variable climate, Jersey offers a close match to the weather the team will face in their upcoming tests. The choice has been strategic, and the Springboks are already feeling the benefits of being stationed close to their first match location.
“It’s been a refreshing change,” said Thomas du Toit, the Springboks’ versatile front-rower, about the team’s arrival in Jersey.
I’ve been in the UK for a few weeks, so it wasn’t too drastic for me, but for the guys coming from South Africa’s warmer weather, it’s a good chance to acclimatise before game day.
The team’s head coach, Deon Davids, echoed this sentiment, noting that the island’s conditions allow for intense training that prepares the Boks for the cooler, often rainy UK matches. “Being here has given us a feel for the environment,” Davids said, “and with only a short travel to the game locations, we can focus on refining our play rather than dealing with jet lag or drastic weather changes.”

Back home, fans are watching eagerly as the Boks take on this northern tour, hoping their favourite team will bring the same grit and intensity that led to their World Cup triumph. The warm reception from locals on Jersey and the opportunity to practise with top-notch facilities have helped keep the Springboks in high spirits.
“The facilities are excellent, and everyone’s been very welcoming,” Du Toit shared. “It’s a beautiful place, and it really sets the tone for what we want to achieve in the coming weeks.”
With their preparations finely tuned to the UK’s playing conditions, the Springboks are aiming to make this November tour one to remember.
